The Hardest 3%

Why Mastery Feels Impossible (and How to Keep Going)

The more you do, the harder it gets to improve. But that’s also what makes it worth it.

> Going from zero to 80% is relatively easy.
> Going from 81% to 90% is tough.
> Going from 91% to 95%? Brutal.

And getting from 96% to 99% could take a lifetime.

Bestselling author Seth Godin calls this The Dip — the point where things get so hard that most people quit. It’s why mastery is rare.

But I’m not here to be another hype-you-up, “grind harder” social media guru.

I just want you to know, dear reader, that starting is easy. Learning is painful. And every successful writer feels insecure.

Self-doubt never fully goes away.

I’ve second-guessed this very email at least five times.

I gained 100 new subscribers this week.

  • What if they don’t like me?

  • What if they think I’m a fraud?

  • What if they all unsubscribe, I have to sell my house and give away my dog, and I cause a worldwide economic collapse?

See how silly the brain can be?

So here’s the real takeaway: show up.

Think. Write. Walk the same steps every day, no matter if you feel confident or not.

And one day, without even realizing it, you’ll look back and realize

— you made it to 99%.

P.S. Lately, I’ve been working with Christian entrepreneurs, and I keep hearing the same struggles. As a pastor and fellow Christian in business, I want to help. So I put together everything you need to build a business that honors God and makes money. For free.
